Natural Cancer Treatments
at Oasis of Hope
The Place for Alternative Cancer Treatment
At Oasis of Hope we teach patients how they can successfully improve their diet and exercise habits, to optimize their body’s innate healing powers. The scientific evidence of the preventive and curative benefits of a diet low in fats, animal proteins and sugar, while being high in vegetables, is compelling. The preventive and curative benefits of regular aerobic exercise have also been widely acknowledged by the medical community for decades.
More recent research suggests that these healthful lifestyle strategies may also help to slow the growth and spread of many pre-existing cancers. So prudent advice on diet and lifestyle is a key component of therapy at Oasis of Hope.
All dietary changes should be complemented by regular aerobic exercise. This means exercise where the patient supports his or her own weight and moves non-stop for roughly thirty minutes. Taking a brisk walk or using exercise equipment like stair-climbers, elliptical gliders and treadmills, will provide aerobic benefits.
We are also located three blocks from the beach so many of our patients take advantage of this and go for walks, enjoying the view of the Coronado Islands and the Pacific Ocean.
Remember, the goal of the Oasis of Hope approach to the treatment of cancer is to intervene simultaneously in as many ways as feasible to promote the death of cancer cells and block the spread of cancer cells. This is the most effective way to control cancers and keep them from becoming aggressive. How foolish would we be not to acknowledge the impact of diet and exercise in that effort? There is so much evidence now that clearly suggests a range of cancer-specific benefits that can be derived from a healthy diet and regular aerobic activity.
One of the goals at Oasis of Hope is to use nutrients, phytochemicals (natural chemicals derived from plants) and currently available drugs to suppress signal transduction pathways that are overactive in cancer cells, or to boost pathways that are under active. This inhibits the cancer cell’s capacity to grow, spread to distant organs and grow the new blood vessels necessary to feed tumors. The nutrients, phytochemicals and safe drugs we use in the Cell Signal Transduction Therapy include such familiar supplements as omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil, milk thistle extract (silibinin) and green tea extract, plus less familiar substances and safe drugs such as boswellic acids, diclofenac.
